CADASIL-Radiology
A familial form of vascular dementia affecting younger patients is currently very topical: CADASIL (cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy, subcortical infarcts and leucoencephalopathy)
- Clinical features: Stroke and migraine as well as dementia are common clinical features.
- The gene is known, but sporadic mutations occur.
- Radiology:On MRI there is usually striking confluent ischaemic damage throughout the cerebral white matter (including temporal lobes, often spared in arteriosclerotic disease) and basal ganglia.
