Match for Radiology Residency- Current Status in US
According to an article published in Journal of the American College of Radiology, by Chen Jim Y et al, Although radiology residency positions have continued to increase, interest among US seniors has dropped every year since 2009. The 2013 match was the least competitive since 1998.
Does that mean popularity of Radiology residency in US is dropping? In India we see that the interest is still high, probably this reflects the stage of development we are in with number of scans in India increasing and increasing need for diagnostic services. Lets hope for the best for scenario in India. Another thing this trend suggests that radiologists should take more active role in patient management, communication and medical student training. Sub-specialization is another need of the day.
