Keeping pace with life
At times life seems to move faster than life itself. In order to take more out of your day you shift to faster cars and chose best possible flights to get more out of the day. When you are rushing through, you just are focussed on targets and speed. Targets keep getting steeper and speed is never fast enough.
One day I decided to make it point to go slower. I deliberately took a wrong turn and felt the joy of being in new route where I didn't know where it would lead. I had to focus on surrounding to get the route back towards my destination. I noticed more than usual as my awareness was awakened by the anxiety of a new road.
I noticed there were so many things and people on my way which didn't exist for me so far. I saw the red flowers on the trees and people on the road. I saw the florist around the corner and river on the way. I actually noticed a group of beggar children on the traffic light. I saw their faces and eyes. They were real people. There were so many real people all around with their stories and aspirations similar to ours.
When we rush, life shows you blurred surroundings. But when we slow down a bit, blur clears and reality reveals.

Great post. We are often so busy in the moment that we fail to realize what's around us. I find this is especially true in medicine. In college we strive to get to medical school. In medical school we strive for the perfect residency program. In residency we strive for the perfect position as staff. All the while we miss what's in front of us. It's commendable that you've taken such time to stop and refocus. You've inspired me to do the same.
