Tuberous Sclerosis-MRI

Four common CNS abnormalities of tuberous sclerosis  are cortical tubers, subependymal nodules, subependymal giant cell astrocytomas (SGCAs), and white matter abnormalities. Except for SGCAs, these abnormalities can be seen in almost all patients with TS.

This patient with epilepsy show characteristic subependymal nodules on MRI. Subependymal nodules represent hamartomatous change in subependymal tissue and usually occur as multiple nodules. At MR imaging, subependymal nodules are hyperintense on T1-weighted images and iso- to hyperintense on T2-weighted images.
