CT contributes to understanding history: Pompeii
The victims of Mount Vesuvius, preserved in ash for nearly 2,000 years, have been CT scanned, revealing details of their lives. While CT scanning has been in archaeological use since 1970 it is only recently that the technology has become good enough to be used on the plaster casts, the density of which varies from restoration jobs over the years.
