Dynamic Glucose Enhanced MRI- Is this the future of MRI contrast agents?

In a report published in Tomography Dec 2015,  Xiang Xu et al Chemical Exchange Saturation  Transfer (CEST) MRI for dynamic signla changes in human brain at 7T during and after D-glucose infusion. Warburg effect (malignant cells have higher rate of glycolysis as compared to normal cells ) utilized in FDG PET is well known.

Possible replacement for gadolinium as a MRI contrast agent in future. It is the first time a non-synthetic contrast agent has been used in MRI. It also could lead to convergence of role of MRI as functional as well as anatomical evaluation.
