Mesentry Reclassified as an "ORGAN"

Prof J Calvin Coffey and D Peter O'Leary have published Review Article in The Lancet, according to them, "though this area of science is in an early phase, important advances have already been made and distinctive anatomical and functional features have been revealed that justify designation of the mesentery as an organ.

Accordingly, the mesentery should be subjected to the same investigatory focus that is applied to other organs and systems.  Systematic study of the mesentery is now possible because of clarification of its structure.

Counter Debate: Some people disagree with this reclassification. According to them,  mesentry is a conduit to is  blood vessels, lyymphatics and and nerve fibers, along with storage for fat. Should be considered as a separate organ is a matter for debate.
